Community Outreach at PCUCC
Our Christian Action Board connects us to the wider Southington community through finding volunteer opportunities and directing financial support, including all proceeds from the Mystery Dinner and 10% of the proceeds from our Ye Olde Country Fair, to non-profits in the area.
Current Opportunities
Weekly Food and Diapers Collection for Southington Community Services
Bring your non-perishable food, specifically fruit, and disposable diapers, and leave them on the collection table just inside the door to Fellowship Hall.
Strengthen the Church Collection
Plantsville UCC participates in the “5 for 5” UCC yearly collections. (Our Church’s Wider Mission, One Great Hour of Sharing, Neighbors in Need, The Christmas Fund and Strengthen the Church).
Strengthen the Church is a special mission offering to reimagine and to build the future of the UCC. STC largely supports youth ministries and full-time leaders for new churches in parts of the country where the UCC does not have a strong presence. It also provides support for existing church’s new initiatives.
You should have received information and an envelope for the STC offering in the mail. You can donate in three ways:
Bring the envelope to church.
Mail the envelope to the church office.
Donate electronically via PayPal. Please include “Strengthen the Church” and your envelope number (if you have one) in the “Notes” section on the donation confirmation page (the second page).
The Board of Christian Action thanks you in advance for your support!
Some of the Organizations We Partner With
Southington Community Services
Southington Community Services (SCS) provides support services to Southington residents and serves as a link between private providers, human services and governmental agencies. We collect donations for their food bank, specifically committing to stocking their “fruit shelf,” every week. In addition, we hold food and clothing drives (such as “Stuff the Snowman” and “Fill the Truck”) regularly. We purchase gifts through our annual Giving Tree for SCS clients.
Southington Bread for Life
The mission of Southington Bread for Life is to provide food, fellowship and a sense of dignity to those in need. They provide meals served daily in their kitchen, deliver meals within our senior community and home bound citizens, and run a summer lunch program for children. We volunteer as servers in their soup kitchen and donate food.
Family Promise of Central Connecticut
Family Promise of Central Connecticut partners with local congregations to host an un-housed family, one week at a time, until the family is back on their feet. We volunteer with other churches to help with their overnight stays.
