Barbara Demorest, a breast cancer survivor, founded the Knitted Knockers Support Foundation (AKA knittedknockers.org) in her hometown of Bellingham, WA, after she learned from her doctor about a knitting pattern to make a handmade comfortable prosthetic as an alternative to the traditional silicone prosthetic. She gathered friends and they began to make and distribute the knitted knockers to doctor’s offices and local women in need. After building her own successful model, Barb expanded her mission and redesigned her website to be a digital portal for other regional networks of women helping women. With the help of volunteer knitters and the support of our congregation and the community, PCUCC became a registered supplier of Knitted Knockers in May 2017.
